MCKELLAR WINS AT TONY AWARDS!
canadian filmmaker wins best book-musical
Toronto, June 11 2006 - Congratulations to Drowsy Chaperone co-writer, Toronto's Don McKellar, who accepted the award, along with his co-writer, Bob Martin.
Don, a uniquely gifted creative guru, has been an energetic, intelligent and reasoned voice in the battle to stimulate greater awareness of the issues and potential solutions surrounding the Canadian film industry. He has vigorously challenged the federal government and general public alike, to value and to help grow a robust, indigenous Canadian film industry.
In a world where we like to boil down complex ideas into simple sentences and one-breath, one-line definitions, Don is a dragon slayer, and somewhat of an enigmatic figure. A multiple-award winning filmmaker and writer, he also directs and often acts in his own films. A true national treasure.
Congratulations, Don, from your fellow filmies in Saint John, New Brunswick!
